‘FSRA, PSPF SHOULD FOLLOW PROCEDURE’

MBABANE – As the finger-pointing rages on in the recently-stopped PSPF investigation by FSRA, Cabinet has called for both entities to engage and iron out differences.

Yesterday, Deputy Prime Minister Paul Dlamini, who is currently the acting prime minister, clarified that the position of Cabinet was never to stop the investigation, but only advised the parties against taking the matter to court.

He said that was the message they gave to Minister of Public Service, Owen Nxumalo to communicate to the parties as a way of resolving the impasse caused by the Financial Services Regulatory Authority (FSRA) headed by Sandile Dlamini to institute an investigation into the affairs of the Public Service Pension Fund (PSPF).

“Cabinet simply called all parties to follow procedures than to go to court. In summary, the investigation was never stopped, but we want them to engage, read through the pieces of legislations that governed the whole process. At the end they should negotiate each other to come up with a solution in the matter amicably,” he said.

The acting premier was responding to questions emanating from comments made by Minister Owen Nxumalo who insisted that Cabinet took a decision on the matter, calling for the FSRA to follow the provisions of the law, especially on the terms of references for the investigators.

The assertion by the DPM came just after the Financial Services Regulatory Authority (FSRA) CEO Sandile Dlamini insisted to the Times SUNDAY, during an interview on Friday, that only Minister Nxumalo could shed light on why the investigation had been stopped. Dlamini was quizzed on what might have caused the halting of the investigation since no one seemed to know the answer.

“Only Minister Owen Nxumalo can tell why the PSPF probe was stopped because when he came to discuss the matter with us, he was not accompanied by anyone, he was all by himself. Not even the Minister of Finance, Martin Dlamini, under whose portfolio our organisation falls, was present,” the CEO said.
