MANZINI – God finally chose Manzini Wanderers in yesterday’s Bible Society Cup match at Mavuso Sports Centre.

With all the country’s big teams’ supporters showing up, it was a colourful event and certainly a religious game given all the Bibles in the stadium and the respect from fans despite their imbibing on the waters of immortality.
One thing was certain; God had to be on Wanderers’ side after going 13 years without a trophy despite playing six finals since the Swazi Telecom Charity Cup in 2005.

They recently lost to Young Buffaloes in this year’s SwaziBank Cup final. Wanderers have precisely lost three Charity Cup finals and three SwaziBank Cup finals.
Yesterday, the gods smiled on them over Manzini Sundowns, who won the first edition last year.

Meanwhile, Wanderers were crowned champions but not before the supporters had their favourite verse on alcohol, Proverbs 37:1 read out.
This was just before kickoff but it showed that people can really benefit religiously with the ‘Bible in the Soccerfield’ concept that the Swaziland Bible Society is bringing into the game of millions.

Back to the game which was also graced by Premier League of Swaziland Chairman Mark Carmichael and Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs Minister David ‘Cruiser’ Ngcamphalala, skilful winger Ali Matse was the havoc wreaker for Sundowns before winger Mike Dombo put the last nail in the coffin.

He struck in the 28th, nicely controlling a long ball into the Sundowns danger zone, took on the last defender Kingu Pemba before scoring into the near post. This was much against the run of play, though as it had been Sundowns on top.
Striker Sandumuzi Zwane should have put Sundowns ahead in the 17th after he was set for one-on-one with the goalkeeper by Phumlani Ngwenya but shot straight to the advancing Romanus, who comfortably blocked before the ball was cleared for safety.
