NKHABA – A police warning shot was not enough to stop a furious mob from heavily assaulting an alleged rapist.

The incident happened on Tuesday at Nkhaba where a mob pounced on *Musa for allegedly raping a seven-year-old girl.
About 50 people, mostly related to the mother of the child, attacked *Musa.

The rape suspect was beaten for over three hours by the angry mob and it was the arrival of the police that saved him from their wrath. However, the police had to first fire a warning shot to try and disperse the mob who did not budge.
They eventually decided to leave him when they were satisfied after a thorough beating.

The suspect was busted after the child eventually confided to some women in the community who had to beg her to tell them who had raped her.
This was after the survivor refused to speak out to her mother and the nurses at Nkhaba Clinic.

However, the child eventually spoke out to the community women, that Musa had allegedly grabbed her by the hand while they were playing at his homestead and placed her on the bed, before allegedly raping her. Musa is a neighbour of the allegedly raped child.
According to the mother of the survivor *Busisiwe, she noticed her daughter walking strangely and when she checked her private parts, they had sores, blood and a whitish substance.

The mother said she reported the matter to the child’s grandmother, who advised that she should take her to the clinic.
“We visited the Nkhaba Clinic on Wednesday morning, where the nurses confirmed that my daughter had been sexually assaulted,” said Busisiwe.
She said they were given a letter by nurses at the clinic, who referred them to the Mbabane Government Hospital.
However, she said Thursday fell on a holiday and they found out that there was no doctor and had to come back on Friday.

She said when they arrived at the hospital on Friday, the doctor said they should get a police report before they could be attended to.
“I went to report the matter to the police who prepared the police report for us which we also presented to the doctor,” said Busisiwe.
She said blood and urine tests were conducted. “The doctor found out that she had contracted a sexually transmitted infection (STI),” she said.

The mother said her daughter was given tablets and they went back home. However, she said they still have not received counselling services and were expected to go back to the Mbabane Government Hospital on May 25, 2018.
A community member, gogo Simangele Masilela said they were left dumbfounded as they trusted the alleged rapist.
Gogo Masilela said they would even dish food for Musa who was very useful in the community and would come handy in so many ways, which included cutting wood.

“We are still shocked by the incident and this shows that we were not safe at all,” said Masilela.
She said Musa came at a very tender age with his father who was a Mozambican national and grew up before their eyes.
“He was more like a son to me,” Masilela said.

Chief Police Information and Officer Superintendent Khulani Mamba, confirmed that a statutory rape case was reported.
Meanwhile, Mamba said the suspect has not been arrested yet as the matter was still being investigated by the police.  However, he said the alleged rapist would eventually be charged as the case was valid.
