MBABANE – “The other ID does not belong to me but to one Sibusiso Dumisani Shongwe.”

This was the submission of murder suspect Sipho Shongwe when denying the assertion by the Crown that he had two identity numbers.
He made this denial in his application for bail in the extradition matter which is pending at the Manzini Magistrates court. The Crown recently disclosed that Shongwe’s true identity was being investigated by the police as he had two identity numbers.

Shongwe stands charged with the murder of businessman and football administrator Victor Gamedze. “I know of only one Swaziland identity number being 7009066100870,” submitted Shongwe.

He averred that the Crown has failed to prove the existence of the other ID.

Shongwe submitted that he had a Swazi travel document and an international passport.

He told the court that he had no knowledge of the other documents that were produced by the Crown. “The issue of the identity number 6805066100500 has been subject for discussion during my bail application at the High Court and has emerged therefrom that this document belongs to Sibusiso Dumisani Shongwe,” contended Shongwe.

He averred that the Crown had failed to produce evidence that linked him to the documents. “Even at the High Court, no pictures were filed to substantiate the Crown’s assertion,” alleged the murder suspect.

He went on to deny that he left the country after having committed a robbery where E500 000 was stolen.  Shongwe contended that not only was such an allegation hearsay on the part of the Crown, but no proof of any nature had been brought forth to show that he was charged for the said offence.
