NOKWANE – Smiles were written on the faces of many junior army officers as His Majesty King Mswati III gave them hope of being promoted.

This was before he announced the promotion of five senior officials.
The King, who is also the Army Commander-In-Chief, said it had been a while since the nation gathered at Nokwane Army Barracks either to celebrate the Army Day or witness recruits as they graduate.

This meant that it had been years since he announced the promotion of soldiers.
He said this was despite the fact that there were military men who had left the army because of different reasons, which included death and retirement, among others.

Vacant

He said as soldiers holding certain ranks and positions in the army leave, their posts remain vacant and need to be filled.
“Filling the vacant posts also gives opportunity to junior officers to be promoted,” he said and his statement was followed by a loud sound of whistles and Bayethe, which largely came from the recruits.

Thereafter, the commander-in-chief announced the promotion of Major General Mashikisane Moses Fakudze, who was the master of ceremonies (MC) during the event, to Lieutenant General.
Meanwhile, four Brigadier Generals; Manzemvula Mamba, Shayilanga Kunene, Collen Lasco and Thembinkosi Mngometulu were promoted the rank of Major Generals.
