MBABANE – The DPP and the suspects who are alleged to have kidnapped and killed Matsapha businessman Almor Oliveira are leaving nothing to chance.

Both parties have roped in South African advocates to represent them in the trial which is now scheduled to begin on June 5 – 8, 2018. Initially, the trial was set for March 23, 2018, April 4 and May 2, 2018.
According to a memo which was addressed to the Registrar of the High Court by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Phila Dlamini last Friday, both the Crown and two of the accused have instructed advocates to represent them in the matter.
Qing Ming He and Dao Thanta Hue have been charged with the murder of Oliveira. Ming He and Hue were denied bail by Judge Mbutfo Mamba.

A third suspect, Zhen Renmei, was granted bail at the Mbabane Magistrates Court and she faced a charge of being found in possession of a firearm.
The suspects are represented by Mabila Attorneys, who have since instructed a South African advocate to appear on their behalf.

Mabila Attorneys addressed a letter to the DPP advising that they had instructed an advocate and indicated that the senior counsel would be available on June 5 – 8, 2018 to proceed with the matter.
The DPP indicated that these dates suited their advocate which is when the trial is now scheduled to proceed.

Mabila Attorneys also requested to be furnished with a copy of the forensic reports in order to appropriately brief the appointed advocate. The matter will be heard by Judge John Magagula.
Ming He, Hue and Renmei had been collectively slapped with 10 charges.

The charges include that of murder (apart from Renmei), kidnapping, attempted extortion, theft and six of violating the Arms and Ammunitions Act.
In the first count, it is alleged that Qing Ming and Hue, acting jointly in furtherance of a common purpose, intentionally deprived Oliveira of his freedom of movement by holding him hostage.
They are alleged to have committed this offence on April 16, 2017.

The second charge is that of murder where it is alleged that they unlawfully killed Oliveira.
The accused are further alleged to have attempted to extort Oliveira’s wife by threatening to kill her husband unless she paid them a sum of E5 million.
