MBABANE - Has the death of businessman Victor Gamedze created enmity between Mbabane Swallows and Matsapha United fans?

This question comes to mind following the clash which ensued outside the High Court premises yesterday, after businessman and Matsapha United Football Club Director Sipho Shongwe’s bail hearing was postponed to next Wednesday.

Gamedze, who was the chairman of Mbabane Swallows Football Club, was shot dead at Galp Filing Station in Ezulwini on January 14, 2018. Shongwe was later arrested in connection with the killing of Gamedze.

He is alleged to have acted jointly, in furtherance of a common purpose, with Mbuso Ncaza Nkosi, Sicelo ‘Dzodzo’ Zikalala/Luthango and Siphiwe Ngubane, in the killing of Gamedze. The veracity of these allegations is yet to be tested in court.

The fans of the two teams were at the High Court to follow the proceedings of Shongwe’s bail hearing.
They were crammed in a small courtroom for more than 30 minutes while they awaited the resumption of the case.

Upon arrival at the High Court, the fans went into Court D where they shared the seats peacefully. Trouble began along the way out of the court premises as they departed, following the postponement of the matter.
Matsapha United fans, who were on board a mini-bus, allegedly accused Mbabane Swallows supporters of blocking the road outside the High Court premises next to the Mbabane Government Hospital.

While arguing and pointing fingers at each other, the Mbabane Swallows fans defended their member, Sterere Nxumalo who had a heated argument with the Matsapha United supporter who was driving the vehicle
“What do you mean when you say I blocked the road? Did you ever see me blocking the road?” asked Nxumalo.
