LOBAMBA – Thanks but no thanks! These were the words of Lindiwe Dlamini, wife to erstwhile Minister of Commerce, Industry and Trade, Gideon Dlamini – who is also the elected Member of Parliament for Mkhiweni Inkhundla.

Dlamini was explaining that her husband’s term in office had taken its toll on her family.
She said being a spouse of a politician was taxing and needed someone who was patient and passionate about people. She noted that the marathon five years as a spouse of a politician were strenuous for her.

“I have just had enough in these five years but if my husband wants to come back, I’ll support him.”
The wife of the entrepreneur cum politician noted that throngs of people were always showing up seeking support; either monetary or being empowered through information.

She also noted that being a wife to a politician demanded that her husband be away from his family for more hours.

Allegations

Worth noting is that her husband was fired as a minister under allegations of corruption – which were, however, not substantiated as he was never charged.
The ex-minister is currently suing government, with the Minister of Finance Martin Dlamini being the first respondent. He is suing the State for his BMW X5 Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) which he had been offered through Financial Circular No 2 of 2013 but was forced to forfeit when he was sacked from Cabinet. Dlamini’s plea is to buy the vehicle from government.

While some spouses to politicians whine about scores of people forming long queues seeking help at their homes, Futhi Mabuza has got it easy.
Mabuza is wife to Minister of Commerce, Trade and Industry, Jabulani ‘Buy Cash’.

She said should the people mandate her husband to represent them in the Legislature again, she would support him. Mabuza further noted that luckily for her, the throngs of people who are known to seek help from their constituency representatives in Parliament were not flooding her homestead.
Instead, she said they met her husband at the constituency centre.
