MBABANE – Is Victor Gamedze’s alleged killer, Sipho Shongwe, the same man who was sentenced to two life sentences for the R17.4 million Bronkhorstspruit heist in 1997.

Bronkhorstspruit is in the Republic of South Africa. Information sourced from New24, reveals that one Sipho Shongwe and others were sentenced to two life terms each for the murders in the heist, plus between 23 and 33 years’ imprisonment in the Pretoria High Court in 1997.

Reports are to the effect that the local law enforcers through Interpol, are also doing a background check on Shongwe regarding the same matter of the heist. This is meant to verify if indeed Shongwe is the same man who was sentenced by the South African court.

Reached for comment, Chief Police Information and Communications Officer Superintendent Khulani Mamba said he could not share that information with this publication as that would reveal how police conduct their investigations.
In the Bronkhorstspruit heist, the said convict appears as City Sipho Shongwe, while in Swaziland he is known as Sipho Dumisani Shongwe.

Convicted

Three policemen were among the 10 men convicted in the Pretoria High Court for the R17. 4 million heist outside Bronkhorstspruit in July 1997.
Two security guards, Phillipus van Staden and Andrew Charslund, were shot in the head and killed when a gang ambushed two SBV Services security vans.
