MBABANE – Sanity prevails! This is what best describes Matsapha Municipal Council’s decision to abandon their plan to hold its retreat in South Africa which was going to cost them an arm and a leg, but opted to hold it at Simunye Country Club.

Last year, this publication reported that the municipal council, headed by Town Clerk Lucky Sukati, intended to go on a retreat which was to be held at Bundu Lodge located at White River, South Africa.

This retreat was expected to cost a whopping E578 159, much to Matsapha Ratepayers’ chagrin.

Of this amount, E333 321 was expected to cater for the subsistence allowance that was to be shared by the 29 delegates.
However, according to our senior sources at the council, the retreat to SA has since been abandoned as council has since decided to hold their three-day retreat in one of the country’s prestigious country clubs. As such, the retreat is currently ongoing, having commenced on Friday.

This decision was reached after the council’s request to host the retreat in South Africa was rejected by the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Phiwayinkhosi Mabuza.

Budget review
Responding to questions sent by the Times SUNDAY for his attention, Mabuza revealed that his ministry had received a request from the Matsapha Town Council to embark on a retreat in South Africa in order to carry out their Infrastructure Development Plan and Budget Review and it had been rejected.
