MBABANE – Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Health Dr Simon Zwane found his name jotted in a suicide note of a civil servant.

However, the civil servant failed in his attempt to end his life as family members managed to locate him, though he was found in a weak state after ingesting some substance believed to have been poisonous.

The civil servant addressed the note to Chief Police Information and Communications Officer Superintendent Khulani Mamba.
In the note, he informed Mamba that he was ending his life because of PS Zwane and another high ranking official also from the Health Ministry.

The letter stated that the PS and the official knew why he had decided to end his life.
He, however, did not elaborate  in this regard.
In an interview, the PS confirmed knowledge of the note and that he knew the civil servant, who will not be named for now.
The PS said he once confronted the civil servant after getting reports that he was allegedly abusing a government vehicle.

“Just like all the other drivers when they are reported, we speak to them. I talked to this particular one early last year. I am still waiting to get a report as to why he mentioned me in the suicide note,” Zwane stated.
Some of his friends stated that it was a good thing that he did not end his life as he had children who still needed him.

The letter was found last week Friday and the civil servant was nowhere to be found as he disappeared after officials had confiscated the government vehicle which he was allegedly misusing.

Police were then informed of his disappearance and a search for him ensued as it had been suspected that he had killed himself.
He was later found near a forest at Luphohlo Dam after he called some of his relatives and the police and informed them of his whereabouts. He was in a weak condition as he had not eaten for all the days he went missing.

Superintendent Mamba stated that he heard of the note and that it had been addressed to him from the station commander and the desk officer at Mbabane Police Station.
