MBABANE – The warning bells should have rung when public notices were issued warning members of the public against dealing with Sefika Insurance Brokers (PTY) Limited

A month later, two female directors of the company have been arrested for allegedly stealing over E1.7 million.
One of the arrested directors is Zintombi Patricia Ntiwane (51), wife to popular doctor Themba Ntiwane and her co-director Nonhlanhla Sibonisile Salelwako (40) of LaMgabhi under Chief Ndzimanye.

The exact amount which the duo is alleged to have stolen is E1 741 834.41. These were monies they received from various clients as directors of an insurance broker.

It is alleged that the accused would take monies from clients and use it for their personal gains instead of remitting it to the Swaziland Royal Insurance Corporation (SRIC). They allegedly committed this offence during the period from June 2015 to December 2016.

“The accused persons were directors of Sefika Insurance Brokers and entrusted with the responsibility to collect insurance premiums on behalf of the Swaziland Royal Insurance Corporation (SRIC), and to remit the said premiums to SRIC within a period of 90 days. The said accused did unlawfully and intentionaly steal a sum of E1 741 834.41, being monies received from various clients, the property or in lawful possession of SRIC,” reads part of the charge sheet.

The notice advising or warning members of the public to cease from conducting insurance business with Sefika Insurance Brokers was issued by the chief executive officer of the Financial Services Regulatory Authority (FSRA) in December last year.
