MALKERNS COUNCILLOR THOLIWE TSELA IS DEAD

MANZINI – About two months in office, Malkerns’ only female Councillor is no more.

Councillor Tholiwe Kheselinah Tsela (56) is said to have died on Tuesday afternoon at the Mbabane Government Hospital. Tsela succumbed to a short illness.

She was the only female councillor to be elected into office and she was further elected as Deputy Finance Chairperson.
A family member, who preferred to be anonymous due to that the family was still grieving, said Tsela was fighting several illnesses which emanated after an operation. The member said Tsela got sick in November and she complained of a stomach ache.

After several days of persistent pains, it was discovered that she had gallstones in her stomach. This was after she went for a medical check-up. After being sworn in as councillor, the relative mentioned that Tsela went for an operation to remove the stones in her abdomen. However, only after a week, just when they thought she was recuperating from the operation, she developed more pain in her stomach instead. They again took her for a medical examination as they suspected that the operation was complicating.

To the family’s surprise, the source said it was discovered that her liver was damaged and that she had cancer in her stomach. The lump is said to have been too big hence it was difficult to remove.
“The family is still shocked because it was too short a time that Tholiwe was ill. We did not anticipate this to happen since we thought all would be well since she removed the stones that threatened her life in the first place,” said the family member.
