MANZINI – The two schools that shocked the country with their dismal performance in the 2016 Junior Certificate (JC) examination results seem to have turned the tide.

Both Ngcoseni and Lozitha High Schools scored the worst results in the 2016 JC examinations, and parents and pupils alike were this year eagerly waiting to see if there has been any improvement.
For Ngcoseni, it was a case of so close yet so far.

This best describes how the school administration feels about the 26 per cent improvement in the 2017 Junior Certificate result.
The school recorded 97 failures, a decrease from 2016, jaw-dropping 166.

Commenting on the results, the Head teacher, Gcinumuzi Dlamini, said the school noted the improvement but was still not pleased with the position it obtained, as it was in second position on the list of schools that did not perform well.

There were 35 Third Class passes and 68 Second Class passes. On the bright side, the results were blended by six First Class passes.
Justifying the results, Dlamini attributed the teachers’ dedication and cooperation towards ensuring that all learners’ focus was shifted to school work more than anything else. He said this would not have had any effect if parents were not as equally involved.

To ensure that pupils had all the time they had invested in their studies, Dlamini said the school involved parents during the start of the year to find a way to prioritise education, hence the resolution to stop competing in all sporting activities in the school.
In addition to changing the perception towards the school in as far as academic results are concerned, Dlamini said sports were left out of the school’s extra curriculum activities, in a bid to make up for time that was wasted during a period where the school lacked teachers for some subjects.
