MBABANE – We can only get better as a school.

These were the words of St Mark’s High School Deputy Head teacher Winile Dlamini during an interview about the school’s performance in the 2017 Junior Certificate External Examinations.

The school attained a 100 per cent pass rate and was the second best performing school in the country. It came second to KaBoyce High School, which was also the best performing last year.

Dlamini attributed the school’s success to mentorship, teaching, encouragement and teamwork among other things. She said the school was big on mentoring pupils and ensuring that they realised their full potential. She said they did this by identifying potential in every pupil and motivating them to realise what they were capable of. She stated that teachers encouraged pupils to do better at all times.
“This made even the average child want to give it their all,” Dlamini said.

She stated that the pupils were also willing to learn and be guided by their teachers.
She said they could not have attained what they did had it not been for that.
Like a well oiled machine, Dlamini said not only pupils but teachers and parents also played crucial roles in the school performing well this year.
She applauded her teaching staff for their commitment and extra effort. She described them as a great team to work with, which she would not trade for anything. She explained that the teachers helped pupils with their revision and availed themselves to assist pupils after school hours.
