MBABANE – “Pay us all a minimum salary of E11 000.”  This is the latest bombshell that has been dropped by the Swaziland Revenue Authority (SRA) workers who are currently on strike.

The latest list of demands was issued yesterday by the leadership of the Swaziland Revenue Authority Workers Union (SRAWU).
The new demands come while the SRA management was scratching their heads on the 6.5 per cent cost-of-living demand.
The workers have said every employee of the authority, including drivers, clerks and receptionists, were expected to earn nothing below the aforementioned salary.

In the statement of facts which was delivered by SRAWU to the Ministry of Finance, the workers have also demanded housing allowance for all SRA employees within the union’s bargaining unit.

This was revealed by the union leadership yesterday, when they delivered a petition to the Ministry of Finance, which was received by Principal Secretary Bheki Bhembe.

SRAWU Secretary General Moses Masilela said they were demanding the intervention of the minister of finance, Martin Dlamini, who was responsible for finances in the country and under whose portfolio the authority falls under. Masilela called upon the minister of Finance to order the management of the SRA to award an across the board salary increment of 6.5 per cent to all employees.

According to Masilela, negotiations for the financial year 2017/2018 between the union and SRA management started around June 2017. He said the negotiations collapsed around the month of October and a dispute was reported to the Conciliation Mediation and Arbitration Commission (CMAC), which then issued a certificate of unresolved dispute.
