MANZINI – Spinning cars are usually cheered with whistles by onlookers but in this case, they screamed in shock and disbelief.

This was after a 21-year-old Mozambican man drove a VW Jetta negligently, while doing some spinning stunts and knocked four Kasumi Apparels II employees, killing one of them on the spot.

The incident occurred near Dixies, in Matsapha along 3rd Street, on Tuesday at about 5:20pm. It happened at the time when Matsapha Industrial Sites employees had knocked off duty and were headed home. The man allegedly started his car-spinning stunts from 11am on the day, while employees within the industrial sites had taken a break and continued doing so even after they had knocked off.

After spinning his vehicle near the National Fire and Emergency Services Station, he took the 3rd Street, over-sped and when he tried to negotiate a corner, he lost control of the car, and it veered off the road, knocking the four Kasumi employees in the process.  Kasumi was formerly known as Kartart and is close to the accident scene.

According to eyewitnesses, the industrial sites employees were walking on the right side of the road when the accident occurred.
An 18-year-old woman, Nokuthula Dlamini of Mahlabatsini, sustained serious head injuries and was allegedly tossed in the air before she landed in a ditch and died.

Dlamini was certified dead upon arrival at the Raleigh Fitkin Memorial (RFM) Hospital, while two of the employees were admitted there.
Upon arrival at the hospital yesterday, one of the admitted employees, Lungile Mamba, said she did not remember anything regarding the accident other than that she had fragments of memories of her leaving her place of employment with a colleague.

Her right leg was severely injured so much that she was amputated shortly after she was admitted to the hospital.
“I don’t know what happened. I only recall being lifted from an ambulance and when I asked where I was, the paramedics said I was in hospital,” narrated Mamba, with wells of tears rolling down her face.

She further said she was frustrated by how life would be for her after the accident because she would be forced to leave work due to her condition.
Meanwhile, another victim, Sibusiso Nzima who was admitted to the Male Surgical Ward at the same hospital, was also reportedly had his leg amputated. The forth employee was treated and discharged after sustaining minor injuries.

It was also gathered that it was not the first time the man spun different vehicles at the place.
“He likes drawing attention and we have always said that he would cause a bad accident one day. This man always drives his car negligently and comes close to pedestrians.

“We have always told each other that the vehicles would end up killing him, however, it has turned out to be the other way round, he killed and seriously injured our colleague,” employees from Kasumi who preferred anonymity said.
