PIGG’S PEAK – Failure to come to terms with the likelihood of repeating a class for the third time, coupled with allegations of abuse, was enough to push a teenage girl to commit suicide.

Another young person has been lost to suicide, this time, it is a Form IV pupil of Timphisini High School. The incident happened after the pupil had just fetched her results, which reflected that she had not performed well enough to be promoted to the next class. This meant that she was expected to repeat Form IV. It would have been the third time for her to repeat the same class.

Thabani Tercia Motsa, who is said to have ingested an undisclosed number of the deadly weevil tablets had been living with her grandparents near the high school where she had been enrolled.
On the day of the suicide, Thabani had been visiting her father, who is said to reside at Nkomazi in northern Hhohho. She is said to have left behind a note giving reasons for her killing herself.

In the letter, Thabani blamed her father for her troubles that led to her take her own life.
She alleged that her father was abusive in that he overworked her in doing household chores.

She also made reference of instances when her father made them work like tigulumba (tractors). The pupil, in the letter, also accused her father for using abusive language when addressing her and her other siblings.

This was also confirmed by her grandfather, who introduced himself as Gama. He said he was hurt by the manner in which his granddaughter died.
