BORDER HOURS TO BE EXTENDED

MBABANE – As is the norm around the festive season, the operation of border gates which the kingdom shares with neighbouring South Africa will be extended.

The country’s busiest port of entry, which is the Ngwenya-Oshoek Border Gate, is expected to operate for 24 hours between December 21-25, 2017.
This means that those who might find themselves on the road on Christmas Day can rest assured that they will be able to access either country with ease.

At least this is according to information released by the South African Department of Home Affairs.
The department released this information through its official Facebook page and website last week Thursday.

According to the department, this was to ensure the smooth movement of people and goods in and out of South Africa during the peak festive season period and as a result, it would be extending operating hours at that country’s busy borders and beefing up security.

In their least most busy ports of entry listed, which share borders with Swaziland were those in the Mpumalanga region. These include border posts such as Mananga, Jeppes Reef (Matsamo) and Mahamba, which have been extended by at least two hours. However, these will operate normally on Christmas Day. The operating hours for the Lavumisa-Golela Border Gaste in the Kwazulu-Natal (KZN) Region have, however, not been finalised.

Meanwhile, the Lebombo Border Post which connects Mpumalanga and Mozambique will be operational for 24 hours from December 13, 2017 to January 8, 2018.

“Operational hours will be extended for busy ports of entry, covering pre-festive season movements, the festive season period and the re-opening of schools, that is, from December 6, 2017 to January 16, 2018,” said the department in a statement on Thursday.
