MBABANE – The passing away of former acting Ludzidzini Governor Timothy Velabo TV Mtetwa was not just a loss to his family but left Mangwaneni residents without answers about who has authority over them.

At the time he was reportedly indisposed, he was to deliver a message from traditional authorities which was to give a directive about the area’s fate, however, he later passed on. This was after an uproar by the residents who bayed for the blood of Municipal Council of Mbabane (MCM) rangers as they blamed them for burning one Mfanizile Hlophe for extending his house in October last year. Mtetwa’s demise left residents in the dark about who had authority over the area between the municipality and the Mangwaneni Royal Kraal. This uncertainty has left businessman Bongani Dlamini caught in the crossfire as he has been served with a letter by council, informing him that he should stop construction of his block of flats with a value of over E1.1 million and demolish the structure within seven days.

Dlamini vowed that he would not act on the letter but proceed with construction as planned. The city council wants the structure demolished as they allege that Dlamini does not have a building permit allowing him to proceed with constructing the flats. In an interview, the Hhohho Regional Administrator, Prince Tshekedi, could not state much on the issue. The prince was reminded about the meeting which was to be attended by Mtetwa and asked what the position was on the matter, to which he said they were still waiting for word from ‘kaNgwane’.
