MATSAPHA – Gunshots were fired as about 20 police officers raided the infamous KaBizzah and other shebeens where a total of 26 people were arrested.

The 26 people who were arrested at the shebeen and surrounding areas included alleged sex workers, who were found loitering, people selling liquor and other items including cigarettes, illegal gamblers and also those found with dangerous weapons.

Well-placed sources revealed that upon arrival at the place, the gate was locked and since the walls are high, the team of police officers had some difficulty entering, until they deduced a plan.

It is alleged that after pretending to be buyers, the officers who were not uniformed, were eventually allowed inside the drinking spot. However, after a while when patrons at the place realised that they were police officers they started stoning and allegedly assaulting them with all sorts of objects which they threw at them.

The situation became tense as the police officers felt unsafe, due to the patrons who were pelting them with stones and other dangerous objects.
It came to a point where guns were drawn and the police eventually fired warning shots to calm the angry patrons at the place.

Offences

About 13 people were arrested and charged with different offences at the place, they were all bundled into police vans and taken to Matsapha Police Station, where they were ordered to pay different admission of guilt amounts.  The other 13 were arrested in Matsapha surrounding areas.
