MBABANE – While a number of areas affected by the storm have endured two days without electricity, SEC is still uncertain when power will eventually be restored.

The areas where the storm wreaked havoc include the Manzini-Matsapha corridor stretching to Malkerns, Bhunya and Mankayane.
In fact, when the company’s Marketing and Communications Manager Sifiso Dhlamini was asked when the affected areas can expect power back, he said SEC he would be in a position to know with certainty tomorrow.

“We have never experienced such amount of damage caused by the Friday storm before and as such, we cannot state with confidence when all power lines will be up and running as yet,” Dhlamini said
Dhlamini went on to say that a day of trying to repair the damage caused by the freak storm has seen them restore electricity in a fraction of the affected areas.

“This is one of the worst storms that have affected the country in terms of the electricity outages which were as a result of damaged infrastructure,” he said.
He said that it would take long to fix the damages because this time around, power lines providing electricity to various substations were damaged.

“It is not a matter a restoring power to the affected areas but we need to fix our substations first,” he said.
He said in an effort to fast-track the rehabilitation period and process, the company had recalled all the contractors in its database. “We have recalled all the 100 contractors that were registered with SEC this year and we have also asked the contractors to recall all their employees who are currently on leave,” he said.
