MBABANE – “My mother-in-law displays traits of racism against me.” This was one of the submissions made by a woman who is currently embroiled in a court battle with her mother-in-law over assets which the former claims form part of her late husband’s estate.

“Trouble started after the demise of my husband and the respondent (Margareth) started exhibiting a hostile attitude towards me and as a result I had to vacate the deceased’s home which is situated on the family farm,” she stated.

She also told the court that the respondent never really accepted her as her daughter-in-law and she always reduced that to the differences in their races. “She displays traits of racism against me and as a result of her refusal to grant me my rights in the estate is consistent with the perceive racism,” alleged Khulile.

The applicant (Khulile) wants the court to direct a deputy sheriff to seize and attached some items from her mother-in-law’s homestead in Shiselweni.  The items include John Deere tractors, two tractor ploughs, deep freezer, stock remaining in bar, tractor trailer and a disc harrow.

According to the applicant these items formed part of her late husband’s estate.  She alleged that she was the executrix dative in the estate of her late husband Johannes George Broodryk. Khulile submitted that her husband died in February 2016 and on August 10, 2016, the Master of the High Court issued to her a letter of authority as the person appointed to wind up the estate.

She told the court that pursuant to the issuance of the letter of authority, she started means to wind up the estate but her efforts were allegedly frustrate by her mother-in-law.
