MBABANE – If you are a plus size, then you must forget about joining His Majesty’s Correctional Services (HMCS).
This is because the facility does not accept people who have been declared obese or fat by doctors.

Over three aspiring warders, who fall under the professionals’ category, have already experienced the pain of being turned back despite having gone through the necessary procedures required of aspiring warders.
One of them, who asked not to be named, mentioned that she was left disappointed after being told that her body mass was not suitable for the job.

Interestingly, she had planned to quit her profession, which, however, cannot be named because she could be easily identified.
She alleged that after going through the whole process including getting her fingerprints checked and completing a medical examination, she was told that her weight disqualified her from the recruitment.

“What pains me the most is that when they invited applications from those who wanted to try their luck, they did not mention that fat people should not bother, otherwise I wouldn’t have wasted my time.
“What they have done is some sort of discrimination.

“Yes I am big in size but there is nothing that I cannot do,” she said.
According to the woman, the officers who conducted the interviews informed them that fat individuals struggled with what was known as the Russian drill, which demanded extra energy.

Another aspiring warder who spoke to this newspaper alleged that even though she was qualified, she had an aspiration to join the Correctional Services but was advised to go and shed a few kilogrammes and try her luck perhaps after a year.
“I thought I had made it after going through the medical examinations.
