HLATIKHULU – A married female teacher’s youthful romance turned sour when she was brutally chopped up by a young lad on Thursday night, in a late night call-fuelled rage.

The horrific attack with a bush knife and slasher resulted in the 46-year-old primary school teacher around Hlatikhulu losing two of her fingers, while one of her ears was left hanging by a thin piece of flesh.
She is currently fighting for her life in hospital. It was not immediately ascertained if police officers were able to locate the woman’s dismembered fingers at the scene of the crime. The assailant is said to be 16 years the teacher’s junior.
Saneliso Simelane (30) was consequently detained by the police on Friday after he admitted to hacking his lover the previous night.

It was a hurried call by the teacher’s neighbours at New Town location in Hlatikhulu which led to the attempted murder probe and the young man’s eventual arrest.
Information gathered from sources indicated that Simelane allegedly carried out the frenzied attack on his lover in a fit of fury after she apparently received a call from a male teacher, whom she said had called her regarding work issues.
However, not convinced by the advanced explanation, the jealous man picked up an argument. The couple reportedly argued for a while until the young man decided to go for a bath in a detached room in the same compound while his lover retired to bed, according to an account given to detectives.

Apparently, prior to the attack, the man initially threatened to leave for his parental homestead after taking the bath, but on second thought he returned to confront the woman over the phone call again.
Reports are that during that skirmish, he managed to retrieve a bush knife, which he had kept in the house for protection, from under the bed and then threw the woman out of the house.
Once outside, the man allegedly proceeded to strike the woman repeatedly with the bush knife until it broke into two pieces.

The man apparently knew of a slasher that was also kept in the house, and when he realised the bush knife was broken, he went back for the slasher and continued from where he had left off. In the process of the furious attack, the woman, who was bleeding heavily by then, had two of her fingers cut off.
Witnesses said at that moment, a woman who was preparing supper for her family in a nearby house heard the sound of someone crying and went outside to investigate.

“Just as a parent meting punishment to a wayward child,” she remarked when she saw two shadowy figures in the dark next to a hedgerow marking a barrier between the two homesteads.
She then paid no further attention and returned to her house. Suddenly, after returning to the house, she was again disturbed by a terrifying scream, and this time around she realised it was a panic stricken voice of a screaming woman.
Fearful of what was happening outside, she alerted her sister who was equally reluctant to go and ascertain what was happening out of fright.
