MBABANE – “Compensate me, you ruined my daughter’s future!” This was said by a teacher of Siyendle High School, who is suing his daughter’s ex-boyfriend for abducting her, resulting in the girl dropping out of school.

The teacher, Fana Fakudze, yesterday informed the court that her daughter, Nonjabulo, had to drop out of school because after the incident, everyone in the community was ridiculing her.

According to Fakudze, not only was her daughter lampooned by community members but she was also mocked by her teachers at school. This allegedly resulted in her not attending school. He now wants the court to direct the boyfriend, Dumisani Mkhonta, who is a civil servant, to compensate him with E30 000.

This amount, according to Fakudze, was in respect of school expenses, general damages occasioned by the disappearance of the child, stress, out of pocket expenses for travelling to search for the minor when she had disappeared. He alleged that when the incident happened, Nonjabulo, who is now 25 years old, was doing Form V at Holy Rosary High School.

Fakudze told the court that on or about July 17, 2010, his daughter disappeared from home and a search commenced. He told the court that Nonjabulo’s disappearance was reported to the Mankayane police.

“It was a Friday when she disappeared and she only returned home on Sunday afternoon,” submitted Fakudze. He pointed out that upon her return, they tried to ask her where she was from but instead of responding she kept on crying.

“We then called the police who took her to the police station and it was after a lengthy questioning that she disclosed to them that she had been at Mkhonta’s place,” alleged the applicant.
