RECRUIT GUARDS FOETUS AT EVENT

MBULUZI – Medical tests conducted by army doctors came under scrutiny when a female recruit got a miscarriage while attending an auspicious occasion recently.

The incident occurred as the recruits were preparing to showcase their talents before guests, who were anticipating a beautiful showing.
However, it was not to be for the recruit following her sudden misfortune as she was left alone with her foetus and eventually was forced to call for help.

The incident raised the ire of other recruits who wondered how she was recruited into the army in the first place because she was allegedly evidently pregnant when she enlisted.

Some of the recruits wondered why she was given special attention when others who had been found to be pregnant were immediately sent home but it took a while for this particular recruit to be sent packing. They named a senior officer who they alleged was the one who was against having all the girls tested before allowed to start the training programme.

While the officer alleged to have ordered that the girls not be tested could not be reached for comment, army Public Relations Officer Nkhosinathi Dlamini confirmed the incident.

Dlamini further stated that a doctor’s report concluded that the recruit’s illness was due to miscarriage after she was taken to hospital. Sources who witnessed the incident revealed that the girl, whose name has been deliberately withheld, started bleeding and experiencing severe pains while mingling with other recruits who were visibly embarrassed and shocked at what was happening especially given the occasion.

“After a while she gave birth to a visible baby whom we could all see,” said another recruit, indicating that the foetus was reasonably developed as a sign that her colleague was already pregnant when she joined the army early this year.

Some of the other recruits said they suspected that the miscarriage may have been prompted by walking a long distance while others dismissed this and suggested that the pregnancy had survived vigorous training exercises that are undertaken by army recruits at Mbuluzi.
