NEW YORK – “No country has the right to make the world an unsafe place to live and those that threatened to do so must be stopped now.”

This firm call was made by His Majesty the King to the United Nations General Assembly on Wednesday amid a rising threat of a nuclear confrontation between North Korea and the United States.

The condemnation of North Korea’s threat rang loud at the General Assembly. Country leaders were unanimous on the call to end this threat through the complete disarmament of nuclear weapons by all countries in possession of such weapons.

His Majesty said the theme of the session; “Focusing on people: striving for peace and a decent life for all on a sustainable planet resonates perfectly well with the motto of the sustainable development goals of ‘Leaving no one behind’.
He said the theme called upon all to work towards creating peaceful countries, continents and a sustainable world where people could lead a peaceful and prosperous life.

“In this vein, we wish to urge the UN member states to join hands in addressing the issue of nuclear threats that have the potential to disturb the world peace.
“No country has the right to make the world an unsafe place to live and we owe it to our people and to future generations to put a stop to it,” the King emphasised.

His Majesty said terrorism still remained a threat to the safety of people in various parts of the world, which was a setback to key developmental issues that deserve the priority attention of the un if not urgently addressed.
He said the Kingdom of e-Swatini was committed to peace and a decent life for all and was a firm believer in the principle of consultative decision-making.

“This involves a transparent and all-inclusive undertaking that grants every citizen an opportunity to voice their views in order to constructively contribute to the social, economic, cultural and political development of the country,” he said.
