CIVIL SERVANTS MARCH TODAY

MANZINI – Seeking assistance from government offices today could be a total waste of time as public sector associations (PSAs) have called upon all civil servants who want the cost of living adjustment to accompany them to the round table.

Celumusa Tembe, the Secretary General of the National Public Services and Allied Workers Union (NAPSAWU), said they were calling upon all civil servants who want the money and have the muscle to go to Mbabane to join the march and accompany them to the negotiation table.
However, Tembe clarified that the march was not a strike action and that was why they invite those who can afford to accompany the union leaders to negotiate for the cost of living adjustment with the employer.

“By accompanying the unions, the workers will be fighting for their own money because the increment will go to them directly, not to the organisation,” Tembe said. He said it was up to civil servants to show the employer how serious they were about the increment.
He said they needed them to rally behind their  leaders because sometimes the employer assumed that it was the associations that call upon the workers to demand money.

“So, we believe that if those who want the money could accompany us to the round table, this will enable government to know the truth.”
Tembe said even if all civil servants in the country could join the march, they wouldn’t have a problem with that.

On the same note, the Swaziland National Association of Teachers (SNAT) Secretary General Zwelithini Mndzebele said it was not like they were inviting their members to accompany them to the negotiation table but it was the other way round as it was the workers who asked to rally behind their union when going to the round table.
