MANZINI – The University of Swaziland (UNISWA) was saved by the Royal Swaziland Police (RSP) when it was about to release funds amounting to E2.9 million to a con woman’s account.

The woman, Lenhle Ntulu (27), is said to have been in a love relationship with a lecturer at the university, Patrick Mkhonta, who has since died.
After his death and funeral service earlier this year, the woman, is said to have approached the university with fraudulent documents which included a seven-month old child’s birth certificate and a hospital card with all the lecturer’s particulars and submitted them.

It was gathered that after the university had verified everything, including the documents, the pension fund department at the university decided to call the lecturer’s family at Mshingishingini, Hhohho to confirm if they knew the woman and also the child.
“We just had to get the link between the families. when we discovered that the family was not aware of the said child, we started conducting our investigations.

“The family started making means to get hold of the woman and she was eventually found while we held on to the process of releasing the money,” a source within the department, who preferred anonymity, said.
The Mkhonta family allegedly met with the woman and requested her to bring the child to their family as per Swazi tradition.

Reliable sources who were present during the meeting revealed that after meeting the child, most of the family members were not convinced that the child was indeed part of them. “During the period when the child was conceived to the time the mother gave birth, our brother was already ill and there was no way he could have fathered the child.
