LOBAMBA – “I love Their Majesties maybe more than the prime minister does.”

This was one of the statements boldly made by Matsanjeni North Member of Parliament (MP) Phila Buthelezi yesterday, as he came face to face with the Prime Minister, Sibusiso Barnabas Dlamini, in the House of Assembly.

A quiet storm had been brewing since the PM last week Thursday issued a statement that he would fully respond to what he referred to as Buthelezi’s ‘inflammatory’ utterances.
The MP, however stood his ground.

When the House convened yesterday afternoon, the Speaker Themba Msibi was quick to state that the PM had a statement to make before any other business in the House took place.

Using Standing Order No.68 which is titled Personal Explanation, the PM said, the sentiments attributed to by the MP were ‘unfortunate, misleading and in complete disregard to the foundations that define our nation as a united and peaceful State.’

He said they were presented in a manner that, put simply, confronted and attacked the country’s political system which was embedded in the country’s Constitution.

Dlamini said like all citizens of the country, MPs had a duty to defend and uphold the Constitution as the supreme law of the land.
“Instead of confining himself to criticising the work and efficiency of the PM, the Hon. Member attacked the system appointing the PM,” said Dlamini adding that the premier was appointed by His Majesty the King at Sibaya in accordance with the powers vested on him by the Constitution and endorsed by the Nation. “Kusebentisa iPhalemende kuhlambalata inchubo yetembusave KaNgwane kuyindzelelo leyecile, lengenanhlonipho futsi lengamukeleki,” he said in vernacular.
