EZULWINI – Almost 15 years after vacating his seat in senate, former Senator Walter Bennett is still a signatory to the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Swaziland Branch.

He, along with former Attorney General (AG) Majahenkhaba Dlamini, were cited as signatories to an account held at Swaziland Building Society (SBS), which although has E106 268.46, has remained dormant.

This was revealed by the CPA Executive Committee chairperson, Lobamba Lomdzala MP Marwick Khumalo, during the Annual General Meeting (AGM), which was held yesterday at the Swaziland Water Services Corporation (SWSC) auditorium.

The MP said, however, they were presently in the process of changing the signatories as they were also able to round up other former signatories in the likes of former Senator Bhutana Dlamini, Senator Winnie Magagula, Bennett  and the former AG.
Khumalo said the financial institutions which are both SBS and Nedbank Swaziland have assured them that the monies were still there. It was reported that arrangements had already been made to at least complete the process by next week Monday.
Bennett was a legislator during the Seventh and Eighth Parliaments.

Meanwhile, the Treasurer of the branch, Senator Adam Bomber Mthethwa, said the financial position of the branch was not a good one, when he presented the CPA’s financials. In total, the CPA only has E139 694 in three separate accounts held at SBS and Nedbank Swaziland.

Mthethwa said because of the poor state of finances, the branch would continue to rely on government to finance most of its programmes and activities.
He said all three accounts were dormant. The senator said the activation of the accounts was on course and that the previous signatories were cooperating in the process which he hoped would be completed by next Monday.
