MBABANE – As she left church on Sunday carrying her six-month-old baby, Nokuzola Ginidza had no idea it would be their last time attending services.

Ginindza and her baby lost their lives during an accident that happened near SEC headquarters, along the MR19 public road, where an alleged drink-driver from Mantabeni lost control of the vehicle he was driving and knocked another vehicle and three pedestrians on the road. The woman was walking with her friend who is currently admitted to the Intensive care Unit (ICU) at the Mbabane government Hospital.

The mother of the child, who was identified in court papers as Ginindza (25) from Mvakwelitje, was carrying her daughter Abigail Dlamini when the vehicle driven by Vusi Ngwenya, which was coming from the Mvakwelitje direction, veered towards them.
Ginindza is said to have tried to save her daughter when she saw the vehicle heading towards them by throwing her on the ground.
Witnesses who were at the scene say the vehicle driver knocked Ginindza, who fell hard on the ground.
Winile Dlamini (43) from Mangwaneni sustained serious injuries from the same accident.

Ginindza, who was employed by one of the supermarkets in the city centre as a cashier, and her daughter, were both from church when they met their death.
Information gathered was that the three females who were pedestrians and the other occupants of the two vehicles involved in the accident were rushed to the Mbabane Government Hospital. Ginindza and her daughter were still alive when they were rushed to hospital and they died while undergoing treatment.

According to some of the people who were present at the scene, the baby had injuries to her chin when she was picked up and inspected.
The accident happened at around lunch-time. It was alleged that police got hold of Abigail’s father by accessing Ginindza’s phone and informed him of the sad news.

Ngwenya is said to have also drove into an Audi that was coming from the direction of the city centre, which had two passengers who were also injured.  After hitting the Audi, the car went straight towards the mother, and daughter and the friend who landed in a drainage nearby.

Acting Chief Police Information and Communications Officer Assistant Superintendent Phindile Vilakati confirmed the accident and stated that the 39-year-old driver from Mantabeni, who was driving a Toyota Hilux, had been charged with culpable homicide.
