MBABANE – Big shots in the legal fraternity working under government are some of those who are accused of failing to pay their subscriptions to LSS.

LSS is the Law Society of Swaziland.
LSS has taken 20 more lawyers to court for allegedly failing to pay their subscriptions and they include among others Legal Advisor in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Vuyile Dlamini, Head of Human Trafficking Secretariat Nompumelelo Lukhele and Legal Advisor in the Ministry of Public Works and Transport Sanele Khuluse. Some of those who are also reportedly failing to pay their subscriptions are prosecutors and lawyers in the Chambers of the Attorney General.

According to the LSS, these lawyers were in breach of the Law Society Bye-laws in that they allegedly did not pay their subscriptions as per the requirement of the law and as such they could not practise nor charge a fee for services as per the Act.
In the applications, the LSS wants the court to order that these lawyers were not permitted to appear in court and/or charge a fee as per the Legal Practitioners’ Act.

The Law Society is also seeking an order directing the attorneys to pay the various amounts they allegedly owed.
The applications against the 20 lawyers are currently pending at the Mbabane Magistrate Court. Recently, the court ordered about 15 lawyers from private practice and government to pay their subscriptions to the LSS or be disbarred. This comes after the LSS obtained default judgments against them at the Mbabane Magistrates Court.
