MBABANE – While PEU Circular No.3 of 2016 brought smiles to those in top positions of Category A parastals, it has left employees of SRA scratching their heads.

Swaziland Revenue Authority (SRA) employees believe that it is a norm that a circular such as this one should be applicable to all that it relates to in its entirety and not be selective.

Circular No.3/16, which came into effect in December 2016, relates to only improved packages of chief executive officers (ceos), chief financial officers (cfos) and executive management of category a parastatals.

Category A parastals include SRA, PSPF, SWSC, SEC and SWACCA, among others.
Swaziland Revenue Authority Workers’ Union (SRAWU) has written to the Director of Public Enterprises Unit (PEU) for advice on the applicability of the circular to employees who fall under the bracket of executive management. They were expecting a response on or before today.

Secretary General of the union Moses Masilela said the employees were left surprised when it was allegedly communicated to them that as a result of the circular, their bonuses would no longer be decided and approved by the Board as it was in the past.

Approved

In the letter which is dated June 23, the workers say after the bonuses had been approved by the Board, they became payable immediately.

They have expressed shock at learning that this would no longer be the position and that their bonuses would now have to be approved by SCOPE. The Board will only make recommendations.
