THERE IS NO MAGIC PILL...

WHEN speaking to others, I listen carefully to their choice of words.  Certain will go to great lengths to explain how their physicians have ‘changed’ their medication as a result of which they now feel so much better.  At the end of the explanations I always ask, “What are you now doing differently to ensure that you heal, thereby becoming less dependent on the medication?”

Call me crazy but when I was informed that I had suffered a heart attack as a result of high cholesterol, I immediately Googled alternative medicine.  I ensured I introduced turmeric, ginger and honey into my diet.  Exercise became a part of my daily life.  I had to do things differently to get a different result. I knew nothing would change if I just took pills daily and did nothing more. Those heart aspirins made me feel as though my insides were being ripped out.  When I returned three weeks later, the physician found no need for me to remain on the medication. I had done things differently.

To me personally, too many are dependent on pills. They feel depression coming on; they take an anti-depressant, instead of looking within and enquiring on what brought on the depression.  Having been a victim of depression I can openly say that it can take a week to go down to rock bottom, but it will take months to get out of it.  It is something we have to work on daily.  A word from someone, a gesture from another, all these tend to bring to the fore past negative, fearful and insecure thoughts. We all have pre-programmed experiences.

It is important to acknowledge that one needs help and to seek help.  Unless one has previously had the assistance of psychologist or psychiatrist also known as an analyst, initially one cannot do it alone.  There is nothing wrong in getting help, but not getting it and relying on over the counter medication is not only dangerous, it does not sort out the problem but increases dependency on medication.  Exercise assists in picking one up because we produce those feel good endorphins; simply taking medication is not going to sort it out.  Again you have to do something different to get a different result.

Then there are those who often say, “I am praying about it.”  Wonderful but are you taking any action?  God helps those who help themselves.  Prayer alone without action is not going to change the status quo.  Going from one church or prophet to another will not alter anything unless once again one does something in addition to praying.
Remember Christ said “Your faith has healed you.” He did not say “my powers have healed you.” “As you sow, so shall you reap.”
All of the above were to remind you that there is no magic pill that will take your problems away; make you rich; make you lose weight; change your thoughts for you; heal you; give you confidence; make you beautiful; give you a toned body.  Each and every one of these can only be changed through choice, action, belief, consistency and experience.
