NKWENE – A former legislator sustained serious injuries after he was allegedly stabbed and hit with the butt of a gun during a violent attack by carjackers.

Former Nkwene Member of Parliament Aaron Sotsha Dladla was stabbed and beaten with the gun butt during an attempted carjacking next to the Nkwene Constituency Centre on Tuesday night.
Four robbers reportedly attacked the former legislator after he parked his car, a Ford Ranger, by the roadside and attended to a phone call just after 7pm.

One of the attackers allegedly pointed a gun at the former MP and demanded his car keys, while another, who was brandishing a knife, stabbed him on his left shoulder.
Within that skirmish, the one who was holding the gun, also hit the victim repeatedly over the head with the butt of the gun as his partners in crime snatched the car keys from the terrified former lawmaker.

However, the thugs were disturbed by a night watchman who heard the commotion while keeping guard at a nearby shop. The security guard rushed to help the former MP before the robbers could drive away in his car.
After seeing the security guard the quartet ran off with the car keys to their car, a Honda Fit, which was parked a few metres from the victim’s vehicle. Information gathered was that the car keys belonging to Dladla later got lost during the scuffle.

Police officers who were patrolling along the Yith’abantu Highway just about the same time were alerted to the robbery and soon gave chase.

Two of the robbers were later arrested within a space of 30 minutes from the time of the attack. Another pair managed to escape on foot after realising that police were pursuing them.
The officers who attended to the crime scene searched the vehicle and both weapons (a blood stained knife and a pistol) were retrieved.
Upon further investigation, the driver of the getaway car was discovered to be under the influence of intoxicants.

He was then charged for both the robbery and drink-driving, while his accomplice only faced the robbery charged for stealing the car keys belonging to the former MP.
Without the keys, the injured victim could not drive in his car and as a result it had to be towed away to the Hlatikhulu Police Station where it was kept.
Dladla, on the other hand, had to be rushed to hospital to get treatment for his injuries.
