MANZINI – Visiting his other home in Swaziland, where his family owns a farm cost a well-known socialite and South African DJ his life last week.

Bronwen Thompson was a passenger in a Toyota sedan when a South African registered truck driven by one Sifiso Gideon Gumbi (34) of KwaZulu-Natal immediately swerved onto the right lane, facing oncoming traffic and crashed into the Toyota at Moneni, near the TB Hospital.

Residents of Moneni who came running to the scene immediately called the police, who had difficulty taking out Thompson from the wrecked Toyota, together with the driver, Isaac Matsebula as they had been trapped inside.
Information gathered from the Royal Swaziland Police (RSP) is that the truck driver allegedly drove negligently along the MR3 public road and instead of diverting to his left side, where there was a forest, he swerved to the right, killing Thompson on the spot.

Before the police arrived at the scene, it was gathe

red that the truck, a HINO registered NT 51442, which had been pulling a trailer, NT 51884 started developing brake failure when the driver got to Moneni.
he told the police that in a bid to avoid a major accident, he opted to swerve to the right lane, facing oncoming traffic, thus causing the accident.

The South African truck driver was on Sunday denied bail by the court as it was feared he would return to his home country and evade trial.
Thompson sustained serious injuries all over the body and was certified dead upon arrival at the Raleigh Fitkin memorial (RFM) Hospital.

Meanwhile, Matsebula suffered serious injuries on the head and fractures on both legs and arms, and was admitted to the said hospital.
When traffic police officers inspected the truck, it was discovered that it was unroadworthy.
The truck had two smooth tyres, defective hand and foot brakes, torn seats and a cracked windscreen.

A member of the Thompson family in Johannesburg confirmed the sad news and said the family would comment at a later stage.
