MANZINI – An innovative drug dealer successfully made numerous trips in and out of the country in a vehicle he had modified for the convenient storing of dagga.

The police discovered a compartment beneath a Toyota Hilux driven by a Tanzanian national, which had a total of 240 blocks of dagga wrapped in masking tape.

The Toyota Hilux was specially modifed in order to transport illegal drugs into the country and according to the police, it had successfully done so a number of times on different dates during 2016.
The motor vehicle is currently kept at a police station. The discovery of the secret compartment was made by police officers who were on duty at the Ngwenya Border Gate on December 17, 2016.

While executing their duties, searching motor vehicles and pedestrians who were exiting Swaziland to South Africa, the officers encountered one Jafari Hamisi Mkumba, who was driving a Toyota vehicle registered FD 12 TT GP and requested permission to search the car. The police did not find anything illegal inside the car and proceeded to search beneath it, where the spare wheel was kept.

Above the spare wheel, the police noticed bolts and nuts attached to the car and were further met with a smell of dagga.
The police requested Mkumba to unfasten the nuts and bolts but he is reported to have told them that he was unable to do so because he did not have any tools.

The officers were able to obtain the tools and went on to unfasten the bolts and nuts.
