LOBAMBA - The PAC was never ready for the avalanche of words it received from attorneys representing Bheki Mabuza, a contractor who had been summoned to appear before it yesterday.

The Public Accounts Committee, led by appointed Member of Parliament MP Thuli Dladla, listened in disbelief as Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Joel Nhleko read the email from Mabuza’s attorneys, who are based in South Africa.

In essence, the lawyers, CHSM Incorporated Attorneys, minced no words as they stated that their client would not be appearing before the committee, not only yesterday, but at any future date.
“Accordingly, we are instructed to advise you that our clients and or Mr Mabuza will not be appearing before the PAC on May 30, 2017 or at any future date,” wrote the attorneys.

“Any attempts to otherwise coerce our clients to appear before the PAC will be strenuously opposed,” Nhleko read the email, which was signed by the Managing Director of the law firm, Sicelo Mngomezulu.

Mabuza is a brother to the Minister of Commerce, Industry and Trade Jabulani ‘Buy Cash’ Mabuza, and was expected to appear before the committee yesterday morning to answer on how his company, FBO Trading and Projects and Multi Build Sociedade, got to be contracted to rehabilitate Swazi Embassy houses both in South Africa and in Mozambique.

According to the Auditor General’s report, the initial quotation submitted by the contractor, Multi Build, was for E3.6 million in July 2013 and for some reason a revised quotation of E6.4 million was submitted four months later in November 2013.
