MBABANE – A suspended police officer has been arrested in connection with the murder of ‘S’chaza’.

Mduduzi ‘S’chaza’ Matsebula, who was also a police officer, was found last week Sunday in a river by children who were from church.
Lucky Matsenjwa, who is popularly known as ‘Obama’ to many, was arrested by the Swazi police yesterday afternoon at Ngwenya border gate when he returned from South Africa.
Information gathered is that Matsenjwa was from Nelspruit and when he arrived at the border gate, he found that the police stationed there had been alerted to take him into custody the moment he set foot in the country.

It was alleged that he was called yesterday morning by some of his colleagues and informed that he was needed and he informed those who called him that he was out of the country and promised to return later on the day.
Other police officers around the country had received a memo early in the day (yesterday), which was circulating on social media that they should be on the lookout as a warrant of arrest had been issued for Matsenjwa. “Lucky Matsenjwa, an ex-cop, is wanted for the murder of Schaza, please be on the lookout, warrant of arrest is with Lobamba police,” read the memo’, which was circulating by lunchtime.

Some members of the public commented that it was high time witnesses were protected in the country and a witness protection programme be availed by government. Matsebula was a key witness in the fingerprints (criminal record clearance) case involving Matsenjwa, two other police officers and an elderly woman.
He was supposed to be the 56th witness for the Crown in the fingerprints clearance case.

The Times exclusively revealed on Friday that Matsebula’s death dealt the Crown a major blow as his evidence was vital for it to prove its case beyond reasonable doubt against the accused persons in the fingerprints case.
Matebula was the one who had information on the modus operandi allegedly employed when clearing the criminal records. He also knew the amounts that were paid by some of the convicts, who had their criminal records allegedly cleared by the accused law enforcers.

According to the summary of evidence filed by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Matsebula was expected to testify in five counts.
The trial against the three police officers had already resumed before High Court Judge Cyril Maphanga and the Crown had paraded some of the witnesses. It was due to proceed during the next session of the High Court where Matsebula was expected to take to the stand and testify.
