MBABANE – “Go answer for your crimes in South Africa.”

A Swazi man who was on the list of most wanted people in South Africa has been surrendered to the South African Police Services (SAPS) by government.
Bhekumuzi Bhekithemba Mavuso was wanted for among other crimes, murder, contravening the firearms and control Act, three charges of kidnapping, robbery, rape and attempted murder. In total, the accused, who also used Matholeni as his surname, is facing a total of 12 charges which he allegedly committed in various parts of South Africa in 2013.

It alleged that Mavuso, who hailed from Shiselweni, escaped to Swaziland after allegedly causing unrest in the neighbouring country.
The accused was handed over by members of the Royal Swaziland Police (RSP) through the Mahamba Border. Present during the handover were police officers attached to Interpol and an officer from the chambers of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). The extradition of the accused comes after the Crown filed and obtained an extradition order which was eventually signed by Prime Minister Sibusiso Barnabas Dlamini.

“I Dr Barnabas Sibusiso Dlamini, His Excellency the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Swaziland, with the authority and powers vested in me in terms of Section 11 of the Extradition Act No.1 of 1968 and having satisfied myself that there has been a compliance with Section 10 of the said Act, do hereby order and surrender Bhekumuzi Bhekithemba Matholeni/Mavuso through diplomatic channels to the Republic of South Africa to face his criminal charges,” reads part of the extradition order.

In the first count, it is alleged that on September 5, 2003, the accused murdered one Bheki Vilakati at Mayhook Farm, which is situated in Piet Retief, South Africa.
On the same day, Mavuso allegedly contravened the Firearms Act in that he unlawfully possessed a 9mm semi- automatic pistol without a permit or licence. This offence was also committed at Mayhook Farm in Piet Retief.
On December 6, 2013, near Idalia Farm in Piet Retief, the accused is alleged to have kidnapped one Zanele Malinga by forcing her out of her parental home.

As if that was not enough, on the same day and same place, he is alleged to have unlawfully and intentionally deprived a 12-year-old minor of her liberty by forcing her out of her parental home against her will. Matholeni is further alleged to have again in the same place, same day kidnapped Londiwe Malinga, by also  forcing her out of her parental home against her will.
He is also facing a count of robbery with aggravating circumstances.
