MBABANE - A widow is still reeling from shock after one of her in-laws traditionally wed another woman on her husband’s behalf while his body was still in the mortuary.

Nompumelelo Maggie Thwala now wants the court to declare the purported posthumous marriage between her late husband and Belinda Antonio Sindane unlawful.

The deceased, Mabandla Jabulani Dludlu, was employed by the Swaziland National Trust Commission (SNTC).
In her application, she stated that; after passing away, her husband’s family came up and gathered at eBuka although he was finally buried in Hlatikhulu.

“While I was inside the house in the company of other relatives including two of my sisters in marriage, Dudu Dludlu, who is married to Sipho Dludlu, Khanyisile Dludlu and my brother,  Lomsombuluko Dlamini came into the yard apparently running because when she got into the house, she was practically out of breath,” submitted Thwala.

She informed the court that Lomsombuluko, who is the deceased’s younger sister, reported that she had tekaed Sindane as her husband’s second wife.
Thwala mentioned that at the time, her husband’s corpse was lying in the morgue at Dups Funeral Home.
The widow (Thwala) contended that she had been advised and verily believed that it was against the provisions of the Constitution to conduct or purport to conduct a marriage when one of the supposed spouses was late.

She claimed that she had been informed by one Sipho, who was the convener of the family council, that no one sought permission or at least no one informed him that they wished or intended to traditionally wed Sindane.
