LUYENGO – A lecturer at the University of Swaziland (Luyengo Campus) had her car turned upside down by students who were protesting over her alleged abusive treatment.

The lecturer’s vehicle was pushed by over 700 students after a meeting with administration failed to address an impasse between the students and the academic.

Witnesses said a group of protesting students charged at the lecturer’s car after their complaints failed to attract a suitable response from a meeting between the Students’ Representative Council and administration.

Information gathered was that the over 700 angry students, who were singing protest songs, overturned the car and there were even fears they might set it alight.
Following the incident, the terrified academic is said to have locked herself in her office until the arrival of the police who were called by security guards.

This was despite that the security had informed her of the violent attack by the students.
The incident comes after numerous complaints of alleged bullying against the lecturer, who is accused of, among other things, threatening to discredit some of the students doing her course.

The students complained that the lecturer had demanded that they append their pictures in presentations submitted for assessment, and they were afraid that such could compromise their academic freedom.
