MANZINI – “I could not stomach finding packed suitcases and bags with all her belongings when I got back from work.”

These were the words of Lucas Mvimbi Ginidza (29), the man who allegedly attempted to force his  family, including an 18-month old baby to drink petrol in an attempted murder.

Ginindza appeared in court yesterday, his first appearance was a confession before Magistrate Mthokozisi Dlamini. He was later remanded by Senior Magistrate Sindisile Zwane.

The suspect, who is faced with an attempted murder charge told the court that upon his return from work on Sunday, he found his wife Bahle Fakudze with all her belongings packed  and she was ready to leave their home with their child.

“I was shocked when she told me that she was leaving me and I could not accept it. I tried to beg her to stay, however, she refused and said she had made up her mind,” the suspect said.

Ginindza said he further requested his wife to wait for his mother to return from church and other family elders so that they could be informed of her decision, but she insisted she was leaving at the time

“I got infuriated and went for the petrol, sprinkled it all over the house and further drank it, while carrying a box of matches. I wanted the three of us to die, however, residents later came to the house and stopped me before I could commit the offence,” Ginindza said.

The suspect also revealed to the court that they had been experiencing marital problems with his wife and his family was aware of such issues.
“My wife never stopped cheating on me, even after I had caught her with different men.
