HLATIKHULU – A niece and her aunt (mamncane) have become the worst enemies over a man.

The two women are at each other’s throats fighting for a man in a rare love triangle relationship involving family members.
The man they are fighting over is fathering a three-month-old baby with the niece and has traditionally wedded the aunt.

The aunt was traditionally wedded by her groom last Saturday and the customary meat was delivered on Sunday at the aunt’s parental homestead where it was received by the elders.
This is the same homestead where Lindelwa Masango (niece) grew up following her mother’s demise. She had to be taken care of by her granny including her martenal aunt.
The incident has left the small community of Kontjingila at KaMagagane reeling in shock and talking about the episode which has created division in the family.

According to Lindelwa, it all started when she was accompanied by her aunt to hospital where she officially introduced her to the boyfriend and father of her baby.
Lindelwa said she was three months pregnant and was constantly sick. “I introduced my aunt to my boyfriend and we were all together at the hospital where he gave me money to pay the hospital bill,” Lindelwa said.
She added that after the meeting at the hospital, her boyfriend called her and requested that she gives him her aunt’s number which she reluctantly gave out. According to Lindelwa, she questioned the father of her baby why he wanted her aunt’s number and his response was that he wanted to greet her.

In another instance, Lindelwa said her boyfriend’s phone had a problem and he lent one of her phones to him. “The next thing I saw my phone with my aunt yet I had borrowed it to my boyfriend. A fight ensued with my aunt as I did not take kindly that she had in possession my phone which I had borrowed to my boyfriend,” she said.
Lindelwa said she disconnected the phone while it was charging and her aunt demanded it back so she could delete her stuff in it and when she returned it, it was broken.
“Following that incident, I saw my boyfriend sneaking at our parental homestead where he had come to pay a visit to my aunt and slept over.”

This, she said, angered other family members as well who were on her side. However, all her fighting was in vain as the father of her baby eventually wedded her aunt.
