LUSHIKISHINI – As if to bid a befitting farewell to law enforcing former Prime Minister (PM) Sotsha Dlamini, a wanted suspect, who was on the run for seven years, was arrested during ex-PM’sthe funeral service.

The man, who is in his late 30s, was arrested just after leaving the grave site yesterday morning after he was spotted by the woman he allegedly swindled E14 000 seven years ago. According to the police officer who carried out the arrest, known as ‘Chocolate’, the woman spotted the suspect, who allegedly had been hiding in South Africa, among the mourners who had come to the Dlamini homestead to pay their last respects to the fallen statesman.

“She alerted us and we quickly swooped onto the unaware suspect who thought all was well,” the officer said. Only a few mourners managed to see the man being arrested by a plain-clothes police officer in the company of two uniformed officers.

Speaking to Simangele, she reluctantly admitted that she had alerted the police on the presence of the man, who allegedly made off with her money years ago. “I am an airtime vendor and I used my savings to finance the idea that he brought to me that was meant to give both of us a good profit,” she said.
She said that the suspect was a logger to alleged that he had landed himself a tender to supply logs to a certain company in South Africa. She said the man needed about E14 000 to be able to buy the logs and he approached her promising to pay her back with interest after he had supplied the needed logs.

“After I gave him my money, he disappeared into thin air and never came back again. I would periodically receive suspicious phone calls asking me to load airtime so that they can find the missing man on my behalf,” she said.
Simangele said she just wanted her money and was glad that the long arm of the law had finally caught up with the suspect.
She said within the seven years, the money could have made enough profit if she was not crooked by the suspect.

Chief Police Information and Communications Officer Superintendent Khulani Mamba confirmed the matter. The suspect is supposed to appear before the Manzini Magistrates Court today where he will face a charge of theft by false pretences.
