SIYENDLE – Over 100 Form V pupils countrywide have found themselves in serious state of confusion after being served with wrong timetables for their external examination.
So baffling is the situation that some pupils have timetables that reflect subjects they would not even write.

It has since been discovered that the error emanated from the pupils’ failure to choose the correct code for their subjects when they registered for their examination with the Exams Council of Swaziland.
When the error was discovered, the pupils were ordered to pay a hefty penalty amounting to E576, but the decision was reversed following a public outcry.

One pupil, whose identity could not be disclosed, said the penalty was very costly to their parents as they had paid E528 per subject.
Our investigation revealed that some pupils failed to select right subjects for their examination due to the fact that they had to select a code, which represented their subjects and this process confused them.
They ended up choosing the wrong subjects.

There are a number of schools that have been affected and Siyendle High School is among them.
Pupils at Siyendle received timetables confirming that they would be sitting for Geography, Physics (practical) subjects and yet they had not been taught the subjects the whole year.
In other schools, pupils were given a timetable that included Religious Studies, History, Bookkeeping and Physics (Practical) whereas they also had not learnt these subjects.
They are refusing to be examined on subjects they had not been taught all year.

Last week on Friday, head teachers from various schools in the country rushed to the Swaziland Exams Council in Ezulwini in a bid to correct these errors.
Other errors that were identified and were revealed as the timetables were further probed included a case of some pupils being registered as females whereas they were male or vice-versa.
There were also errors on the pupils’ dates of birth.

The timetable showed to this reporter reflects that Siyendle pupils were given (Practical, Physics) while they we supposed to be given an alternative practical.
Another anomaly was that the Exams Council issued wrong identity numbers for the Form V pupils while other pupils chose the wrong subjects for their examination according to the head teacher.
