MBABANE – Confusion reigns among Swaziland’s political formations who are meeting today to strategise on how they will achieve agenda of ‘the Swaziland they want.’

Correspondence intercepted by the Swazi News between political activists, indicate that the parties were intending to brainstorm as a unit.
“Our liberation has not been delayed by the regime but by political parties who claim to be progressive yet very fractious,” observed Musa Hlophe.

Although the exact items on the agenda could not be ascertained, what could be deduced from the communication among the activists is that they were already differing in opinion ahead of the meeting where they intend to speak in one voice.
People who were involved in the conversation are Human Rights Lawyer Thulani Maseko, Political Activist and Analyst Hlophe, Secretary General of the African United Democratic Party (AUDP) Sibusiso Dlamini and Director of Human Rights Swaziland (HURISWA) Comfort Mabuza.

After receiving an invite to the meeting, the AUDP gave his colleagues a lecture saying the AUDP operated through policies, which could not be changed by any other people or organisation(s).
“As such, people are advised to join political party of their ideology to pursue their political goal(s). Individual merit is not individual capacity. Individual capacity delinks person from his organisation. While, individual merit does not delink person from his organisation. Merit according to Advance Oxford dictionary means quality or action that is good. Therefore, merit refers to person quality or credibility.”

Maseko expressed gratefulness as receiving Dlamini’s views by responded by saying, “However, what we need now is confirmation whether your organisation is attending. The issues you raise can appropriately be raised at the meeting. This is precisely the purpose of the meeting; of course we need to do so in a matured, grown up way as views are likely to differ. He added that while they welcomed the observations of the AUDP, their take was that they were not and they should not at this stage attempt to discuss the issues that may be discussed at the meeting.

“The idea that we attend the meeting with an open mind is absolutely a great one.”
Former journalist Comfort Mabuza jumped in to say, “It’s all about freedom of assembly and association that to me is critical as well as opening of space for political pluralism.”
He warned organisations to avoid sending their positions even before they meet to hear the overall intentions based on the concept note sent.
