MBABANE – Bragging about having strong muti has landed an elderly man in trouble as the youth of his area assaulted him on suspicion that he bewitched them.

The elderly man, together with a local pastor, whom he claimed to have sold a portion of the muti to, are now living under police protection, especially during weekends when their matter is being heard at the local royal kraal.
*Mpiyakhe was attacked by local boys after he publicly complained that the pastor was reluctant to pay him his money after he sold him muti a couple of months ago.

“He told us that the muti is meant to aid the pastor to gain clientele as it blocks the local youth from getting employment and also causes men of the area to develop peculiar symptoms of an unknown illness on their private parts,” said a source.
The source who is a father of three, claimed to have also suffered from the illness.

He said the sick people would then go to the pastor for healing and also the youth would go to him to seek prayers so that they could get jobs.
The confession by Mpiyakhe angered the youth who ganged up and ordered that he led them to the pastor so that they could assault him too.

“The elderly man led them to the pastor while he was being assaulted but fortunately the pastor was not there because if he was he would have been mobbed to death,” said a source.
The assault and the reason behind the dispute were reported to the police who opened an inquiry, according to Police Deputy Information and Communications Officer Assistant Superintendent Phindile Vilakati. Vilakati said the police have not made any arrests on the matter yet.

Some residents revealed that the police advised them to return to the royal kraal to discuss the matter and find solutions as community level.
After the advice by the police, the matter has been heard on some weekends at the royal kraal, even though on the first weekend it was cut short as the parties involved engaged in a fierce fight where some people were injured.
The police spokesperson confirmed that the meetings are now held under police supervision to maintain peace.

One young man who has been attending the meetings predicted a nasty scenario in the meetings to come.
“The case is very serious and I am afraid there will be bloodshed,” he said.
